on gasoline. i am probably going to the gas station about once a month. last time i was at a gas station was about...i would say... two months ago. i very rarely put gas in my chevy volt.

as far as he knows, all his friends are not gang members. police are classifying this as a gang related shooting. before four hours before this, there was another murder about two blocks from san jose university. police were called, they responded and noticed a man unconscious, not breathing, took him to the hospital but could not save him. they're not saying if the two murders are connected. it looks like investigators will be here at least another couple hours or so processing the scene. let's head it back to you. >> thanks a lot. >> after yesterday, we're on the rise ahead of the federal reserve releasing minutes of the last meeting. hewlett packard shares pounded after comments from the ceo, hp coming off largest quarterly loss in the history and says company is expecting losses of 10% next year bottoming before a

presidential. vice presidential candidates set to square off next week in kentucky. >> let's turn our attention to weather and forecast with the forecast. >> good morning. that fog is certainly back but the good news is we aren't seeing issues with visibility. we are contending with the fog bank and will see cloudy conditions into the afternoon for some spots. satellite and radar however -- 60 degrees, maybe 61 in redwood city and heyward. other than that contending with upper 50s. mid 50s for daily system. futurecast shows where temperatures will go by lunchtime. check out 12:00 pm. all the green on your screen in north bay for places like heyward, we are only talking

60s, could see 70s for valley and places like san jose. into the afternoon highs, again keeping the green indicating 60s. however the majority of us will see 70. the orange indicates where we are sitting on the border of upper 70s, low 80s. if we see any 80-degree readings it will probably be for delta and livermore valley. cooler conditions, temperatures took a nose dive compared to what we saw monday and tuesday. we saw upper 90s in south bay today, we're sitting in the 70s. 78 expected in campbell. those 90s are long gone because we are only going to climb to the upper 70s for pittsburgh. 69 in castro valley, 67 for sammy and row. we'll see the sunshine into the north bay. 63 for richmond, low 60s if you are headed to ocean beach. looking at the big weather

story, we have low clouds in the forecast. look forward to cooler days ahead as an area of low pressure well off the coast is moving closer to our area. with that, we have the potential for some rainfall. your seven day around the bay forecast shows cloudy into the weekend, temperatures in the mid 70s at best, 10% chance for sunday, increased to 20% chance. we are tracking a storm well off the coast but it could bring rain drops to the bay area. at 6:20 that's a look at your forecast. on traffic now with george. >> we're still recovering from delays at one time characterized by bart as major delays from east bay into san francisco and therefore out to sfo. they are clearing those. some commute could be delayed as much as 20 minutes. as morning wears, delays will spread. that means from san francisco to the east bay, we could see some delays. it was a piece of equipment that

got stuck on the tracks, maintenance work done overnight delayed start of the commute by one hour because that took that look to clear the equipment from the track way. again, though, they are recovering. bridge check for you as we start with a look at the bay bridge, back up already in place now because we have the metering lights activated. already showing from just before 880 over crossing. traffic here is still smooth with an 11 minute drive time. your commute for golden gate bridge is problem free through marine county and on the span itself. east bay, heavy traffic for the ride west bound on interstate 580. not only slow through the pass but heavy coming out of livermore and toward dublin. we haven't had incidents but it's nevertheless slow. we did have an accident on 101 north bound at julien right between the two freeway

interchanges. 101 with 280 and 101 with 880. it's slow traffic now backed up to just beyond 280/101 interchange. it hasn't added much to the drive time. north bay, we mentioned a smooth ride for your trip to the golden gate bridge. >> thanks, george. 6:22. police have arrested a suspect in connection with a double homicide in the glenn cove neighborhood. here is where this happened where police found two people who had been shot. shots were fired in the 300 block of folk stone way. so those two people were killed, and that's the 12th and 13th homicide there this year. family of a high school student shot and killed by police is getting their first look at the report detailing what happened. allen blue ford was shot to death in may. officers say the 18 year old reached for and at one point pointed a gun at them.

that's when they said they felt it necessary to open fire. the family civil rights attorney says the police report raises serious questions about the account. >> it's pretty clear given that physical evidence that no shots were fired by mr. blue ford. there is no gunshot residue and no evidence that the gun found near him had been fired. whoever made that statement were clearly wrong. >> police chief howard jordan released a statement regarding the shooting. it reads in part here, we have a portion we can show you "the release is not intended to address all the questions and circumstances that exist. however, critical issues regarding the investigation, providing of medical care and aid, summary witness statements, lab results, the coroner's report and independently could be rated facts and circumstances as they existed on the scene are addressed through that release." 6:23. we'll be back with more in a couple minutes. a mistrial declared in a case

federal cocaine fraud trial of a san francisco crime lab technician. a u.s. judge says jurors in the trial did not reach a unanimous verdict on the charges. the jurors agreed that madden did take cocaine from the lab in 2009 but disagreed over whether prosecutors proved she did so by means of deception. the judge set a hearing for next week to discuss a possible retrial. catholic church will install san francisco's newest archbishop today. he is a 56 year old who most recently served as bishop of oakland. he will be installed during a three hour mass today. he was arrested for dui in august and has a reputation for fiercely opposing same-sex marriage. he was instrumental in promoting california's prop 8, something that does not sit well with a number of city leaders. thanks for waking up with

dougherty and 680. one of the vehicles could not be moved so it is still blocking traffic. with one late blocked it's driving up drive time which is now up to 38 minutes heading west from the pass to the dublin interchange. i am looking at slowing in 101 in san jose. i will update that next. >> that fog certainly is back around the bay area. into the afternoon we'll see some sunshine. however temperatures only climb to the upper 70s. we'll continue to deal with the fog and cloud cover into tonight and into tomorrow continuing with the cooling trend, gradual sunshine, big changes as we head into the weekend. full details coming up in a bit. >> thanks a lot. looking at decision 2012. the decision over the first presidential debate is how both candidates did. president barack obama and republican mitt romney went head to head in the debate.

now they are in the battleground states as they continue on campaign trail. last night there they are after the shake. then the heated exchanges. mostly it was a cordial debate. the two disagreed on whether bush era tax cuts should be allowed to expire to increase federal government's revenue. >> we have had this discussion before. >> the idea that in order to reduce the deficit, there has to be revenue in addition to cuts. >> there has to be revenue in addition to cuts. governor romney ruled out revenue. >> the revenue i get is by more people working, getting higher pay, paying more taxes. that's how we get growth and balance the budget. but the idea of taxing people more, putting more people out of work, you will never get there. you never balance the budget by raising taxes. >> mitt romney said he wants tax cuts to continue for all americans. president obama pushed for

extending tax cuts just for people earning less than $250,000 a year. bay area republicans were watching closely hoping their candidate could connect with the american people. it looks like he did. romney supporters think their candidate accomplished his goal in the first debate. >> i think mitt romney has done a fantastic job making points about his programs and what he has in store for the american people and growth for middle class, and fairness to every american. >> the republican watchers at this party felt their candidate definitely got the better of the president and according to the cnn poll it found 67% of those surveyed thought romney walked away with it. 25% thought president obama gained the upper hand. stay here for continuing coverage. there are two more debates at least. if you missed last night you can watch on our website in its

there live. what do you have your camera trained on? >> reporter: u.s.s. making island. this is where the whole fleet week kick off will begin, on this carrier, by sponsoring a two day seminar on disaster relief and mayor ed lee will be here. he will be doing the opening remark for the two day seminar. outside of this, you are also going to start looking up in the sky around 1:00 because that's when blue angels will be swinging around, doing some passes. then about 3:00 is when they'll do some practice maneuvers around. so you will be seeing a lot of that. of course then all the official shows start on friday i believe. some of the air shows will start on friday around 12:30 and then you have it on saturday and sunday as well. you also have the parade happening saturday. that starts, i believe, around 10:00. let me check my notes.

around 11:00 is when you will see a parade of military ships underneath the golden gate bridge. they'll be parked at pier 80, pier 45. you will be able to get up on the ships and be able to see and view some ships as well as the u.s. blanket. you will be able to see this. >> it's funny that when you are talking about with all the traffic and blue angels and ships. i am like i'll take the ferry. isn't that a great idea? >> that's a wonderful idea. take the ferry. make sure you bring your bicycle on the ferry so you can maneuver around the city. >> good idea. there is so much going on this weekend. you might want to avoid the traffic. watch our special. you can hang out with the kids in the living room. that's a comfortable way to go. watch our blue angels live

we're back. it's 6:40. an outbreak of a rare deadly form of meningitis has sickened people and four have died from it. the patients received steroid injections mostly for back pain. the drug was made by a speciality pharmacy in massachusetts that has since issued a recall. 18 cases of meningitis are in tennessee. other cases have popped up in virginia, maryland, florida, north carolina. >> former penn state assistant coach who helped build case against jerry sandusky is suing the university. mike says the university ruined his reputation and fired him for his cooperation in the investigation. mccreery testified that he saw sandusky in the locker room shower with a young boy in 2001.

mccreery was fired in july after being placed on administrative leave in november. he is seeking $4 million, total life long salary as penn state football coach. sandusky was convicted of abusing young boys over 15 years. >> jetblue customers have a chance to make good on their promise to leave the country if the other guy wins presidential election. airline is having fun with this idea and holding a contest to give away 2012 free one way tickets to customers who don't see their candidate win. if your candidate loses you get a one way ticket out of the country. like that? where could you go? costa rica, bermuda. but you can't come back. >> wow. >> bermuda is nice at this time of year. >> opening bell is coming up. they'll be hashing out what's going on on wall street as the bell rang around 6:30.

weekend. blue angels are practicing this afternoon over the bay. >> watching wall street with dow joins average of 32 points. rob black, look at the amazing come back of the a's. all i can think about is hewlett packard. >> their stock was hammered. can she turn the company around? >> that's not looking terribly good. when you look at hp you call them a poor man's ibm, not what ibm's hardware or service is. they're trying to get there. it's got a great history. they have too many employees. that's the problem. they need to trim. i hate saying that. i will look like the jerk, not daria, not you. they need to cut 100,000 employees. it's too fat of a company, still focusing on hardware.

it should be software and services company. they want to be oracle and they're not. they want to be ibm. they're not ibm. they're not apple, don't have the product. they have over 3000 different printers they sell. when you think of apple you think of four or five products. when you think of hp you think of too many products. they have to come leaner to market if they have importance in the stock market. >> streamlining the company to workforce, its products, all around. meg is saying 10% drop next week and four to five year turn around. seems like a long time. >> next year will be a bad year. we have european problems, fiscal united states problems. she's being sober saying 2013 is a problem. how comfortable are we talking about 2016 as turn around year? that's an olympic year. i don't feel comfortable talking about the company other than saying it's got to get smaller and faster. >> applied materials are looking

at 900 plus job cuts. is it the wave of the future. a job cut list for corporations will come out today. now we see them trimming more of what they consider fat. >> let's not call it fat. call it 1990s. hardware companies, semi company, in the software era, facebook era. companies like facebook are hiring because it's web 2.0. do we need a new cell phone? smaller, faster, cheaper? yes. there is competition. they have to think about software as well as web 2.0 and consumer experiences. >> slight up tick last week. do you see any positive trend in the employment figures? >> just look at the numbers. 367,000. any number under 400,000 is good. we need more job creation in america. that's a good job what we saw from adp yesterday. good number to what we see tomorrow with unemployment for united states. we get first friday of every

we'll shave off a couple degrees and cooler weather is on the horizon and potential for some talk about heading into the weekend. i will get to the details coming up in a bit. let's take a look at current conditions right now. we're seeing upper 50s, low 60s out the door. 59 waking up in oakland. as we see where the numbers will go into the afternoon, again much cooler compared to what we saw yesterday. yesterday was still relatively warm. the fog didn't return inland areas. we saw sunny skies with temperatures in the low 90s. we are bringing it down a notch, introducing cloud cover this afternoon. 75 for sunnyvale, 73 expected in mountain view and a day of upper 70s for antioch, livermore. 76 in pleasanton and 69 expected in heyward. in the north bay, sunny keys will prevail, low 7 ons -- keep in mind we were in the low 70s yesterday and gray skies

on tap, low 60s heading to ocean beach. 62 in daily city and flirting with 70 in san bruno. heading to fleet week, look at the forecast this weekend. we'll see some fog into the early morning hours. if you are not outdoors watching, you could always watch on kron4, comcast 193. let's focus on the forecast. we'll see clear conditions into the afternoon along san francisco water front. it looks like the winds will push the fog out of our way and with that, temperatures in the low 60s. your seven day around the bay forecast highlights changes into the weekend. we are following a low coming in well off from our coastline expected to arrive monday into tuesday. with that, cooler temperatures, much cooler in fact. we have the potential for some rain. we'll keep monitoring that as we get closer. at 6:52 it is time for traffic with george. >> trafficking a number of hot spots as we look at the ride on

580 west bound. it is really jammed out at the pass with a 46 minute drive time. i expect that time will continue to climb. the accident at the 580/680 has been changed. it managed to jam up this ride. looking at your commute in the south bay, we have two major problems at work. one is an accident in julien. that's gone. the other is the accident at great america parkway that shut down the off ramp from great america. look at what that's done to the ride. you can see it is a 36 minute commute and that time is likely to continue to grow. this is traffic from the parkway toward great america and with the closure of the ramp and activity on the shoulder it is bringing traffic to an early stand still on 101 north. back to the traffic maps for another hot spot this time in high ward on 880 south bound at

highway 992, an accident backing up traffic beyond the 238 connecting ramp in the lorenzo loop which is the connector from 238 onto 880 south bound. looking at your bay bridge ride at the toll plaza, let's switch over like so. back up is running at 18 to 22 minutes depending on your approach. as we have seen even the 880 ride gets backed up for your commute. the back up reaches all the way across the toll plaza for your ride on 880 north leading to west bound bay bridge. >> thank you. there is much coming up on the morning news. possible anti-semitism at uc berkeley. we'll have that coming up for you. here is a live look where we have slow traffic on 101. current temperature is 57. 72 by noon, 76 come this afternoon. we'll be right back.
